Albany Tennis Academy is owned and operated by Head Coach David Kerr.
David is a Tennis Australia Talent Development Coach and a ATPCA accredited Level 2 Advanced Pro Coach and has had a lot of success since starting his coaching career in 2001, winning various local, state and national awards. He has also been selected to manage WA State Country teams in events for SA, VIC and NT tours. David is also a part of the Department of Sport and Recreation Mentor Coach Program, working with younger career coaches in a Mentor role and plays a passionate role as ATA Director of Tennis and Head Coach.
David has won State awards for Club Coaching, Hot Shots and was also awarded the Australian Sports Commission National 5 Star Community Coaching Award for his work with After School Community Tennis Programs. He has also been recognized as a local business leader after been awarded the Young Business Person of the Year by the ACCI.
As a junior, David lived and completed all his schooling in Albany, WA and was a top tennis player and WA representative in soccer. He moved to Perth for soccer as a teenager but after a serious shoulder injury on a Soccer State Team Tour, he decided to move back home to Albany to focus all his experience and expertise in coaching tennis at Merrifield Park Tennis Club.
David and the ATA team now coach at over 20 locations throughout the Great Southern of WA.
David still plays high level tennis, regularly hits with the ATA Advanced Squad and you can see him grinding out sessions with our Australian Singles Champion Abbi Gibson and our other High Performance Players.
Situated 400km south of Perth, Albany Tennis Academy has grown into one of the largest Academies in country WA conducting its programs from the following venues:

as well as several private courts throughout the City of Albany.
ATA was formed in 2001 when David Kerr returned to Albany and set up Saturday morning tennis lessons for junior players. From 10 kids in the first term to 45 the next, ATA junior numbers started to grow as did the need for more days of tennis.
Within 12 months a 2 hour a week, part-time hobby turned into a full time career and now, in 2017 and beyond, ATA has up to 1500 participants per term participating in a huge array of programs including Tennis in Schools, Junior Coaching, Squads, Hot Shots, Private Lessons, Cardio Tennis, Holiday Camps and more.
