ATA was formed in 2001 when David Kerr returned to Albany and set up Saturday morning tennis lessons for junior players. From 10 kids in the first term to 45 the next, ATA junior numbers started to grow as did the need for more days of tennis.
Within 12 months a 2 hour a week, part-time hobby turned into a full time career and now, in 2019 and beyond, ATA has many participants per term participating in a huge array of programs including Tennis in Schools, Junior Coaching, Squads, Hot Shots, Private Lessons, Cardio Tennis, Holiday Camps and more.
We use and recommend racquets, balls and accessories from WILSON Sports and have a large range of DEMO racquets. We have a great partnership with Totally Sports and Surf, in Albany who carry a great range and have the best racquet prices!
Albany Tennis Academy is owned and operated by Head Coach David Kerr.
David is a Tennis Australia Talent Development Coach and a ATPCA accredited Level 2 Advanced Pro Coach and has had a lot of success since starting his coaching career in 2001, winning various Local, State and National awards. As a junior, David lived and completed all his schooling in Albany, WA and was very active and excelled in many sports including tennis, winning a State Championship in BMX as well as being a WA representative in under 17 and 19 soccer. After injury, he decided to move back home to Albany to focus all his experience and expertise in coaching tennis and working on developing junior tennis in the region.
David and the ATA team now coach at many locations throughout the Great Southern of WA.
David is the Director of Albany Tennis Academy and works closely with head coach Vincent Brochard organising timetables for programs at schools and clubs. David still plays high level tennis, regularly hits with the ATA Advanced Squad and you can see him grinding out sessions with our Australian Singles Champion Abbi Gibson and our other High Performance Players.
