We are excited to announce Nelson Stanborough who has overseen ATA for the last 2 years takes over as business owner from tomorrow Thursday 15th September, 2022.
Nels played as a junior with us since he was 8 years old and has coached with/for us since 2016. He comes from a great family, he is a hard worker, and we look forward to seeing where he takes ATA in the future.
We admire the way he completed his Tennis Australia Development Coach course, travelling to Perth for 20 weeks and working throughout. A huge challenge and it has all paid off as he will now own his own thriving small business.
It’s been an epic 21+ year journey. From 4 kids to 1000s enjoying our programs and learning to play tennis in a safe, friendly and professional environment. We had a lot of doubters early on but we worked so hard to become one of WA’s leading tennis providers and provide opportunity for country kids to play tennis, to travel around WA and Australia to play competitive tennis.
ATA has produced 16+ WA representatives, 2 US College scholarship holders and put racquets in 1000s of players hands over the years. Many of these players who now, touch base and say they play at University or Clubs as adults.
A big thanks to our assistant coaches over the years who helped us ensure we didn’t knock anyone back from playing. You all played a vital role in developing the game and encouraging participation.
A massive thanks must go out to our clubs and schools, who I am sure will keep entrusting ATA to provide tennis services. Also thanks to the Lower Great Southern Tennis Association as we were zone coach and junior co-ordinator for 12+ years and to Tennis WA for always helping us with school tennis, trips and tours and your leadership through Brooke and Paul over the years was something for your current staff to aspire to!
Our sponsors have been incredible, and I thanks them for their past (and hopefully continued) support. First National Real Estate Albany, HHG Legal Group, @Wealth Advantage and our racquet clothing and equipment provider Wilson Tennis.
Finally, a huge thanks to my family. Our kids, Daly, Brit and Ainsley, Sorry I’ve missed birthdays, family events and school stuff over the years cause I’ve been working late hours or travelling – but as I look back now, all three of you play great tennis, have learnt life skills while working as coaches (sorry if I was hard on you all) in the business and have enjoyed some awesome travel experiences. And to Eileen, your support and encouragement through the journey has been amazing. More than often the voice of reason, or the problem solver. You’ve never made me feel guilty for missing your December birthday cause I was in Perth at tournaments, or if I was up late restringing, or at a meeting, or talking to parents on the phone about their kids late into the evening.
I hope to still do business with you all. I have taken over as Licensee at First National Real Estate Albany and can help you with all your Real Estate needs.
I’ve enjoyed an amazing tennis journey, met friends for life. Our coaching skills have enabled us an amazing lifestyle for the last (almost) 22 years and we have so many happy memories and experiences.
Good luck to Nels and I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years of ATA brings to our amazing community.
