6 months in the making and we have just returned from a very successful Cardio Tennis Bali Tour.
The Supercoach Diaries. May, 2015 Cardio Tour
Tuesday 12th – We jump in the ATA bus with some ice cold champagne and white wine awaiting for the ladies. The trip is fast and with constant chatter and excitement. We pick up Paul, our awesome ATA friend and fellow coach for the week and head to the airport. A meet and great and a quiet dinner. Its Jess’s first time overseas, and she is a giggle-pot. The tired peoples row (DK, Peg and Bec) fall asleep on the plane, only to be woken by Pauls “Want to play a game?” and then his flying rice crackers. We arrive and get through customs and immigration and have our luggage within 20 minutes. Our legendary drive Coman awaits us. A great driver, and now a friend of ATA! We check into the Jayakarta in Legian (near Double 6 and Seminyak border) and we have nice rooms near the tennis court. Its late, we are tired. Peg, Fe and Mel are sharing a room, its not really big enough, so with all the ladies lights out and asleep, we head to reception to get the girls upgraded to an apartment with a bit more space. Its about 2am, no rest for the wicked, we head to the 24hr MiniMart to get a couple of boxes of water and then head back to the hotel to get the hoppers made up, ladders to unpack, tennis balls to open and lesson plans to organize!
Wednesday 13th – Well the early bird gets the worm. A 6.30 beach walk for the boys and then we hit the court at 8am for our first Cardio Session. It is hot, really hot, the sun is hot, the fence is hot, the court is hot, even the water goes warm. The girls are red in the face after the warm up. We last 50 minutes on court and head to the pool for a swim and then breakie. We find out later that Bec is a little “Heat struck” but soldiered on. We decide a “get to know the area” night is needed and we start a pub crawl which ends at Moo Moos Australian Steak House for dinner. Great dinner, and cocktails and we enjoy a beer tower! 7 of us head to the Y sports Bar where a band is playing, and we enjoy a couple more refreshments and a jug of frozen Daiquiris. which go well with the heat. Absolutely tired and exhausted from the last 24 hours we all crash out.
Thursday 14th – An earlier Cardio session today. Much better for us all. DK and Donna have a step off challenge for the hour while Paul runs the session. Cant quiet remember who won but DK definitely followed the coaches orders with the cool down (and not the sprint DONNA!) We head to Double 6 rooftop bar for pre dinner drinks. We hear about a fantastic themed restaurant called Frankenstein’s and head their for the night. Great fun.
Friday 15th – We have a sleep in and all meet for breakie, fair to say some are feeling a little under the weather today. We head to the famous Canggu Club for a day or tennis, sun, water slides and fun. The court hasbeen double booked which puts us back an hour, but we are offered free ten pin bowling, so we set up a triples challenge. Think DK may have had a little revenge here for the steps loss earlier. We get a great session in and head to the pool for lunch and a chill out. We head back to the hotel for showers and to get ready for a night at the famous KuDeTa. Great night but one of the Supacoaches needs a little sleep and stays behind. Sensational night for those of us that made it
Saturday 16th – Another early Cardio session. Everyone now feels at home. We have a free day after cardio and swim and chill and Mel and Fe discover shopping….. non stop shopping. We meet at Stadium Bar for the Eagles v Gold Coast and have some drinks. We have an amazing night of Teppanyaki. Then its off to Y bar for Stevie Gerrards last game at Anfield. Paul is a big Liverpool fan and we enjoy the first half.
Sunday 17th – A day of rest. Some massage, some shop, some have cocktails, some have all 3. We catch the Dockers v Bulldogs game and have a free day. We catch up for Drinks on the beach and watch the sunset then head to Cafe Bali in Semiyak for dinner.
Monday 18th – We pack and go home. Our flight is delayed a little bit. The flight home was easy. We land and takes about 90 minutes to get through luggage and customs. We get the bus and load up and are on the road. A bit of a sing song and before we know it it is 10pm and we arrive safe and sound.
So how did the trip come about.?? It all started with some friendly banter. Bali is one of ATA Director of Tennis, David Kerr’s favourite holiday destinations and on return from a family trip last year, a little bit of “Bali again, you should take us to Bali!” comments were loosely used at a Cardio Session. After a little bit of research and a quick text message or two went out. Within days a Tour flier was made and the rest is History. We had a lot of fun and are already getting set for our 2016 Cardio Tour.
